| Ranger |
| Rangers are at home in the forests of Tunaria, as knowledgeable about beasts as druids, though less magically inclined. Their melee prowess makes them competent warriors. They function as a powerful meld of these two classes. Only humans and elves have the instinctual nature that will allow them to excel in this class, as their senses are extremely acute. Rangers can become adept at using distance weapons such as the bow and arrow. |

Is intelligence worth getting to 100 for the PoT cm?
what are good stats to a 60 hunter?
well Agi and Dex are your main stats to bring up for hunter, but youll also want to bring up Str and sta and wis and int. all these should be atleast high, for there all DMG for you.(except the STa)
aGI: main power pool, helps you take dmg better
Dex; main power pool, lets you do more dmg
Str; added DMG with your swords.
Sta; HP.
Wis; Bow dmg.
Int; does added dmg when you proc.
Edited, Jul 23rd 2006 at 5:06pm EDT by fistandantilus
i personally do not have a ranger but i been reading on how to build up one on the eqoa main forums. so since your proc path int is gonna help with that and dex is always helpfull, not a 100% sure what it does so much, something about how you hit and str for your dmg with like a sword or something. dex is also your dmg with the bow. keep working on your cms too.
goodluck hope this helps lol

Now what it really does is drop your mana to 50 and then your natural PoT kick in and the fact that your bow strike costs only 5 mana your a ddd nut bag. If you go bow path you will not really need this after lvl 20 as it seems they are changing duration of path bow buffs that do the same thing yet give you the wisdom bump that you need to do the best damage.
Right now I am shooting bows enlessly and am very curious as to where the bar will be set after CB is done. I may post again after I reset and Cb is done.

bow path buffs your wisdom and lowers your power pool and gives you PoT so you can shoot arrows non stop.
proc path buffs you with intelligence(so you can proc more often) and also gives you a proc. procs and buffs are as follows:
lvl 20 Strikeblade-intell+25 & proc damage=80
lvl 30 Windblade-intell+50 & proc damage=120
lvl 40 Shockblade-intell+75 & proc damage=160
lvl 49 Natureblade-intell+150 & proc damage=250
each one lasts 5 minutes and have 3 second recasts. the new lvl 60 epic ones are:
lvl 60 Graal's Venemous Strike-intell+175 & proc damage=300+10% strength
lvl 60 Graal's Final Strike-no intell buff & proc damage=500+10% strength
you get to pick between these two or a new third one which is a 90 second recast crit that does roughly around 1350-1450 damage I believe.as far as stats go you need to decide which MC you want to be and what you want to do(like raid, solo, grind, such builds like that...) and then I can kind of guide you to what stats are good for certain builds. hope you have fun which ever you pick, ill post some MC's for you later if you want. good luck hunting!

just like str and dex does for melee.
31 top mid-lvl duelist on CLW
Now a lot has changed with lvl 60, getting master classes and such.
I went Sword path this time, cause to me the bow path is obsolete now since I can go Hunter and get Trueshot, why waste my time getting bow spell abilities that are normally good for one shot, and eat a lot of power when i can go Hunter with Trueshot and do 2k damage or more?
But... to the question now. Before I left, I was trying to research on what made a ranger proc more. I been reading Intelligence. Is this true?
A lot of this game doesn't make sense, as with EQ1 for PC, dex helped with Crits and how often you proc.
This is what I got now as a 23 ranger wanting to go Hunter.
Base Str 80
Base Sta 80
Base Agi 100
Base Dex 130
I intend to get Base Str and Sta to 100, thats for sure, and I know Agility and Dex have to go up A LOT!
I haven't put any points into Wisdom or Intelligence.
As i said I went Sword path for the procs, Strike Blade, etc.
I want to be a Hunter and get Trueshot, I do Not want a were form. Sorry just not into that and i hate the idea of being attacked by stupid npcs in towns here and there.
What Kind of Stats do I need for Hunter? Any good Sites other then Allakhazam to research this more?
What does Wisdom do exactly for Bow hits, how much training points do you suggest I dedicate to wisdom if needed or should i use gear to raise it?
Same for Intelligence. How much so the procs PROC more often, how many training points do you suggest i spend into this or should I use gear to raise Intelligence up?
Again, any other sites other then Allakhazam that i can read up to learn more on this topic?
Thanks in advance for any help with this. For those that might want to flame me just for asking a question. Please refrain from doing it, I need helpful info. Busy life, thats why I haven't had much time to check this up. Just looking for helpful advice and some sites to point me in the right direction. Thanks again.
Peace folks. :)

First off were form, if you do need int. for procs you could go werehunter no getting jumped in town with that and it give you nice int bump my son's proc for his Pally went way up.
as far as stamina Id say by early 30's get yourself to that 100 base then you should still be able to solo most of the way thro your 30's.
gotta go now I'll be back if you follow up with another post
Werehunter form was something i was considering, but I'd have to ask, Can you go Hunter as MC and still be a werehunter?

Since proc-path is a spell proc it will go off more often if you have more int.The chance the proc will go off is 25%(or 25 out of 100-this is for every class). You can increase your chance of that happening by boosting up your INT.
The way you determine that is by dividing your INT by 10 and adding it to the 25% chance.
example:
lets say your INT is at a base of 60,this means that your chances of the proc happening is 31%(60/10+25=31)or 31 out of 100.
now if you go full proc-path the ability will add 150 INT meaning your INT is now 210.
with your INT at 210 this means you now have a 46% chance of the proc happening or 46 out of 100.
I think you get the rest...
level 20 Strikeblade;
Adds 25 INT
Proc Damage is 80
level 30 Windblade;
Adds 50 INT
Proc Damage is 120
level 40 Shockblade;
Adds 75 INT
Proc Damage is 160
level 49 Stormblade(if you switched paths);
Adds 100 INT
Proc Damage is 200
level 49 Natureblade(this is for full proc path);
Adds 150 INT
Proc Damage is 250
All of these are lightning based(which means it can be resisted with lightning resistence)
But Rangers get a level 13 proc(Flametongue)which is fire based(can be resisted with fire resistence)and I think at 60 it does somewhear over 100 Proc Damage.
I know now that for Hunter i need a base Agility and Dex of 200. I know i will go FULL Proc Path, and Were-Hunter is what I will go for. I have a friend with a lvl 60 Pyromancer and 55 Necro, another with a 55 Necro aswell and Im in a nice but small guild. So i look foward to this all.
One last question if you both dont mind. I know the obvious reasons for raising these stats...
Str (damage)
Sta (Hp)
Agi (Pow & AC)
Dex (Pow & % to Crit, Range shot accuracy)
Int (Proc % thanks to you guys)
But... what exactly does wisdom really do for us rangers? Someone in game said you need good wisdom for Bow damage. I think this person is confused with what the bow path spells do, which is raise your wisdom real high aswell as give you that ONE hit powerful shot that only last a few seconds from Sparrow Eye, Eagle Eye, etc.
But I'm not sure, so any info would be a big help. Thanks again you guys. :)

25 Ranger
(Sword Path)
(Hunter in Training)
Castle Lightwolf
STR=Damage potential
DEX=% of hitting for alot(meaning that if you have high STR for damage, you might want to have a bit more DEX to help you hit for that high Damage)
now with bows its like this:
DEX=Damage potential
WIS=% of hitting for alot(it works the same as above but only that this time STR is your DEX and DEX is your WIS)
meaning that with weapons STR will help do alot of Damage and DEX will help that Damage come out more often and with bows DEX will help do alot of Damage and WIS will help the Damage come out more.
dont put points into wisdom unless your bow path or if you have any left over(if you want) put them in it will help a little bit not a lot.

This is about going rat and 2nd form takes from int no biggie i'm not sword path and third form takes from str but I think I'll have plenty or AR by then. tell mme you opinion
Thx

me (if you look at my signiture)i'm going were-hunter so that means alot of intell(around 200 when I'm done) that will help with the gypsy were-hunter DoT and procs.
I don't think rangers need alot of intell or wis
your path will help that out.(oh by the way I'm a Bard)

21 ranger Suzukiee
18 cleric Nanamartwin
15 Wizy Ulysees..akf Useless....lol
Were-Bear 1st form:45 STR/STA 2nd:80 STR/STA and last form gives 120 STR/STA
Were-Gator 1st form: 45 STR 80 AC
2nd: 80 STR 130 AC 3rd: 120 STR 150 AC
Were-Lion 1st: 45 STA/AGI 2nd: 80 STA/AGI
and last one gives 120 STA/AGI
Were-Rat 1st: 45 AGI/DEX 2nd: 80 AGI/DEX
3rd: 120 AGI/DEX
Were-Wolf 1st: 45 STR/STA 2nd:80 STR/STA 3rd:120 STR/STA
All of these subtract an amount from your INT (starting with 2nd form) except for Rat.Rat takes away from your STR on the last form but takes away from INT on the 2nd form.Every Were- will give you HP starting with the 2nd form.
2nd: 300 HitPoints
3rd: 350 HitPoints
IDK about you but if I had a Ranger I would take Lion-Were because that way I can put more points in my offensive stats(STR & DEX)
and to answer your question...no form gives WIS only STR/STA/AGI/DEX/AC and HP
Edited, Mon Mar 28 02:20:54 2005
Also you can resist the int knock off with high AR...nice for a tank like me who wears a full Heartsblood Alloy set. :)
I think for a Ranger, I would reccomend Wolf because you should have high base and current DEXTERETY and AGILITY anyways to keep your power pool up and since it adds to your Stamina, you will have more HP plus the 300 it gives you starting at 2nd form.
but yes, I agree with Lonso in saying that it really depends on what your stats are and what you need to tailor your toon to how you like it...also, you should look at the level 40 Lycanthropy quest spell/ability...
for bear it is, Cave Bear Strength
Rge Brd Ran Mnk
98 Str buff which stacks with the first bear form and shaman buffs.
Gator is, Reptillian Frenzy
Rge Mnk Ran Brd
120 Sta/Agi self-buff
Lion is, Agility of Kehrahn
Rge Ran Brd
80 Agi & SoW at lvl 50
Rat is, Distracting Squecks
Rge Brd Ran
Ac debuff. Ranges from 200-300
And Wolf is, Rage of Drinal
Ran Brd Rge
self-buff. 125 Str/125 Sta, -30 Wis/Int at lvl 60. 185 power cost, stacks with forms. The Str/Sta can also be motified with higher Wis/Int.
so also keep that in mind when choosing your form.

I have a SkReWy schedule becuase I'm 15 years old and my parents are divorced, so I only get to play at my dad's (Dad and Step-Mother both play EQOA). So I will look into this on tuesday when I'm at my dad's, if I cant get you an answer, then I would reccomend placing a post on either prophetsofzion.proboards20.com (no http://) or at the main Everquest forum, I don't know that URL, because I only post on this forum, the Wings of the Silver Dragon MSG board, and the Prophetsofzion MSG board (I'm a former member, and possible future member).

I need another 200-250 TPs befor my base stats are all 200, I currently have 34 saved, I would suggest doing this, not only will it allow you to put them were youknow you will need them, but also you will be able to go from a decent ranger to a bad-ass Mo-Fo Ranger, I can't wait to award 200+ at lvl 55.
On paper this MC should technically be great for duels, but we'll see about that...

anyways, your dex is great, same as mine actually (without self buff) your str is good, try to get it to 350+ that will up your damage even more (im sure you know that) stamina looks good and agility you could use a bit more of, I wanna raise mine a bit as well because it is a main power stat, I think my self buffed power is at like 4.5k and I NEVER run out, unless I'm getting a PL or raiding...I don't do a lot of either and if I have no mana going into a grind, I will have full mana in less than 2 mins after the clock starts, this is not from bard buff or enc buff, I don't know if you are the same way, but only time I buy drinks is when I'm about to res or going to raid.
Do you save up your TPs? I have 34 saved currently...I'm saving about 300, then I'm gonna get my Dex, Agi, Str, and Sta to 200 bases, then after that I will save again till lvl 60 so I can be absolutely sure I am doing the right thing with them...you may want to consider doing something like that so you don't put them in a place you wont need them later on...plus, once you award a hundred, you notice a huge differance...it's so cool!

SOE really penalizes Rangers for the use of the bow (IMHO), probably to keep kiting from becoming a habit. That's too bad, because I think there would be more bow-path or mixed-path Rangers if power costs associated with the bow weren't so high.

if i was to go bow path and hunter mc the mca's are true shot ( 575 dam + (dex * 3)) and jolt, which i have no info on so if someone could elaberate on jolt and the damage it does, i would appreciate it.
by goin hunter it seems like it would be better mc for raids and the stat pre-reqs arent as much as bravo, only 200 on dex and agi instead of all 4 stats. only thing is would the mana cost for using the bow all the time worth it.
i guess it is still questions i have to ask myself and determain which path i am goin to go still.

Don't know anything about Jolt.
Probably.
Totally true.
The question you have to ask yourself here is, "How much am I willing to spend on drinks" -lol. I am sword path, so I don't know jack about bow path, but if I use my bow, I end up drinking myself drunk. (I dno't carry drinks, I have quick blade for all of my 3 quads, and never run out of Mana, I think I have like 80 PoT and just over 4k Power.) but I don't know if the same will be true for you...I guess it depends on your Dex and Agi and how much Mana your armor gives you (from dex/agi or just strait forward mana).
Also, ask yourself if you want to be better for raids, or if you want to be better for groups, if you ar better for groupsing, it is likely that you will get xp a bit faster, I don't know if that matters to you or not, but I would rather be better at the close range combat...I enjoy it more than taping X, cycling thru a few boe abils and drinking...it is also more cost effective, I never have to drink...that;s how I see it.

I can't shed a lot of light on Bow path and Building your toon to use a bow, so I wont guess at hrow you off, but if you are planning on Bravo, go sword path, and if you are going to go bow path, you may want to look at th MC Hunter so you can build your toon to be ready when it comes time to purchase it. if you decide to reply and say you want more info about Bravo or hunter, I can pull it off of hodstock for you.
Well, to help you decide I will just remind/tell you that Sword path is much better for groups, and Bow will make you more effective on raids.
I am not good at sharing info from a general question, if you want to, I could answer your questions much better if they were individual...
For now, raising dex and agi bases to 150 sounds good, then do dex/str/stam, and once you have your str and stam bases to 150, do dex and str to up your damage, then once your Dex and Str bases are at 200, raise Agi and Stam...if that made any sence...BTW this is mostly what you should do I.M.H.O.
GOOD LUCK!!

First of you will have to switch between bow and swords to use TS (True Shot).
Knowing that here are my opions-
Bravo- Good damage, nice buff, solos good, good on double, tripple, ect pulls (AoE). Looks like same offense STAT wise and has extra Defense.
Hunter- Great raids, Great damage. TS Great attack. Jolt could help to save yourself on raids when you need a strong mob off you.
OverAll i agree with dirges both are good. Whichever you feel could come in most handy.
Str:174
Sta:146
Agi:120
keep in mind im not Lv.40 yet so I didnt get my new cm's yet. Enyway R theese stats good? And do U think I'll be able 2 go Bravo? Plzzzzzzzz answer Ty.... by the way theese r my bases...

Overall I say it would be close between the the two. It looks like the hunter skill does more damage, but regular attacks with a bow drain power limiting your overall damage. Also if you are already blade dedicated I would go with bravo since you basically add another strong attack to your arsenal.

Okay, first off, untill you have hit level 15-20, I would reccomend putting all of your TP's into Agi and Dex, a little more Dex than Agi, but keep them kinda' close. Once yu hit level 20 or so, I would reccomend raiseing Stam, and Str along with Dex, wean yourself off of Agility to an extent, but don't neglect it completely.
Now, once you hit 30, you sould start to award TP's according to the MC you are aiming or, I am going to go for Bravo, so I am trying to get to 200 Str, Stam, Agi, and Dex. The order I am going is, Dex and Str, then once i have those bases to 200, Stam, then Agi.
BTW, I am a sword path Ranger, so if you are bow...pretend yuo didn't read my post, it is USELESS to you. - lol
I know not everyone will agree with me, but this has/is working very well for me. GL with your ranger!
One last thing, my ranger was my 1st toon, so he is a little messed up, but his stats are something like this...
Str: 138 base 350 current
Stam: 125 base 250 current
Dex: 195 base 405 current
Agi: 160 base 255 current
Roughly 4-5k Power and 2k HP. With Rubicite armor i have up to 1.5k AC and with grind armor i have like 800.

I have 5 buffs in my second spell rack i am constantly recasting: bramblecoat, stacker's instinct, leadership, nimble grace, and flametongue. When i'm using bow and one hander my first rack of spells is forests boon, kick, burning shot, frost shot, retreat. I may replace retreat with something else as I rarely have to use it soloing, with groups it's a different matter. I've only starting using forests boon recently, i used to just make and eat grubs, but i'm thinking of getting the forest's relief (does anyone have this, does it heal more than the grubs from forage grub spell?). The grub actually heal faster than the forest boon, but they are a hassle to make and use compared to the spell.
Another thing with using the bow, you get much less damage since you start attacking from a distance, so you don't have to spend much repairing, even when soloing whites and yellows, which is what i usually go for. This has allowed me to accumulate quite a bit of tunar and great items even though I am my own tank, including dragonskin boots and leggings. for my stats i put every training point in dex until i maxed it out, now i put points in agility. My items give me what i need in other stats.
One thing i still wonder if there is any difference in having points come from items or points come from base. For example, if you had a base dex of 300 vs a base dex of 200 and another 100 from items. You still get the same power bonus either way right? Do items bonuses count toward the major cms down the road, like hunter where you need 350 dex and agil? Do those have to be base? In case they do, im putting every training stat in those two and make up the other stats in items. I don't believe in keeping about the same points in all stats as many players seem to do. my stats vary with the items im using, if im soloing i may emphasise agil more than if im grinding with a group that has a tank. I used to have several wisdom items i would use when kiting big monsters with the bow (you keep hitting them while you run, this does work if you have a long range bow, i've killed yellows without getting hit, but usually you do get hit once), but i've abandoned switching items around as its a hassle and its faster using the bow initially to pull them in and when they reach you switch to the two handed weapon.
I've just reached level 33 and my buffed stats with the two handed weapon equiped are: str 82/187 sta 65/106 agi 100/212 dex 216/344 wis 60/86 ac 732 hp 886 pow 2288. I read an earlier post here where a guy claimed to have something like 1800 hp and huge ac at level 33, and soloed all his quests. If you are reading this could you break down your stats and item bonuses? Using the two secondary weapons gives me an extra 40 points of dex and agil when i'm inclined to use them. when i'm grinding in groups (i really hate grinding, does anyone find it fun?) I usually resort to using two weapons as you get so much sh*t in groups for not using them and I don't have to buff myself as much or use forests boon when someone else is tanking.
I expect the path i've taken is different from most rangers and would welcome any comments.

I think I remember that you have brought up the topic of using 1-handers vs. 2-hander before.
Groups don't like it when they see a Ranger packing a 2-hander for one simple reason: group safety. If a mob is near death but still manages to kill the healer or someone else, the group would like to know that you did everything in your power to kill it before this could happen. Since you are not allowed to use many of your blade abilities with a 2-hander, this would mean you could have saved that person if you had used a 2-hander.
I would guess that your argument about that would be that the 2-hander would out-damage the 2 1-handed weapons, even without the abilities. This only SEEMS true because a 2-hander has higher damage than most 1-handed weapons, so it appears that the damage is generally higher with a 2-handed weapon. This is also not true. You may not like it, but 1-handed weapons will out-damage the 2-hander simply because you can use so many other abilities with them. However, because you enjoy soloing so much and also "kite" mobs very often, I can see how using a 2-handed weapon would save you some serious mana and time, especially considering the buffs you try to keep up all of time, but more on those in a minute.
So now onto the CM questions.
First thing you need to know is that Hunter only requires 200 BASE Dex and Agi. Any CMs that you buy that increase your Dex, Agi, or any other stat are added to your base. This way, you don't have to pump so much into certain stats just to get an MC that you want. As far as stat placement goes, well, you don't have to get x amount of stats even, but it's not a great idea to completely ignore some and pump much more into other stats. My point is that, although you can make up for a lack of a stat via gear, there are just times when solely using gear to increase a stat can hurt you. So do what you wish with your stats, but try to bear in mind not to throw some stats to the curve.
Retreat is a group-wide SoW, and you actually get SoW once you complete your level 33 MTG side quest, so I would have to say that since you don't group up much, just ditch Retreat.
The Forest's Boon line of CMs is a love/hate one. Some Rangers would die before giving them up, and others (like me) just don't see the point in them. They do increase your HoT and, as I understand it, will stay on for 5 minutes, even after you use a food item. At level 55, however, I would have to buy nearly the whole line for it to be of any use to me, so I'm not too thrilled about this CM line. For as much as you solo, I might recommend the WoW CM line (Wisdom of the Woods). They change your Dex and Agi buffs to last for 30 minutes for the same power cost, which is quite nice. You also recieve a bit of Sta per WoW you buy as well.
The only other thing I can think of to say (as if this post isn't long enough) is that you really need to start grouping up some more. Now, I understand that you don't like grouping and you would just assume solo and kite mobs all day rather than grind, but it is because of thist that I believe your character build is slightly one-sided. I think that because you solo so much that all of your stats are geared towards the way you solo, which may be why you hate grouping so much. Again, I understand if you don't like it, but you still have to have some sort of middle ground that allows you to be good at both whenever need be.
